Netflix has released another high-concept, clean thriller designed to grab viewers as soon as they open the app. Apex features star-studded performances, a straightforward survival theme, and the "one more scene" momentum that travels well on streaming platforms. This formula is already paying off. Despite only being released on April 24, the film has quickly made its mark on the charts in multiple regions of Netflix, placing it at the forefront of the service's latest and most successful action blockbuster.

The film is an impressively shot action movie that beautifully utilizes the rugged landscapes of New South Wales, Australia. Directed by Baltasar Kormákur, Apex showcases Charlize Theron (The Old Guard, Mad Max: Fury Road) as Sasha, a lost woman who finds herself hunted by a ruthless killer named Ben, played by Taron Egerton (Kingsman: The Secret Service, Carry-On), as she ventures into the Australian wilderness. The film also stars Eric Bana (Munich, Troy) as Tommy.

The official summary briefly states: A grieving woman sets out in search of peace in the wild, only to find herself caught in a deadly cat-and-mouse game with a serial killer.

Charlize Theron remarked to Netflix, "This film really got my brain moving. I couldn't put it down when I read the script, and it stuck with me. It had a very pure but impactful feeling. I felt very strong when it tried to succeed without the bells and whistles, and I loved that." Theron's words reflect how much the actress appreciates the film's simple yet effective structure.

The success of Apex also highlights Netflix's recent strategy in the action genre. The platform prefers to attract viewers with high-budget yet intrinsically valuable productions. The film targets a global audience with its straightforward plot, strong performances, and continuous tension, successfully achieving this goal in its initial weeks.
