The Emmy-winning crime series Beef has returned to Netflix, but it hasn't made the same impact as its explosive first season. Starting with the theme of road rage, the show had become one of Netflix's most talked-about original productions in 2023. The second season features an entirely new cast, a different conflict, and a much more stylish setting. However, initial data shows that the new season has not been able to capture the same strong start. While the series still ranks on the list, the decline in performance is too significant to ignore.

According to Variety's data, Beef Season 2 debuted on April 16 and entered Netflix's English-language series top 10 at 10th place with 2.4 million views between April 13-19. This is significantly fewer viewers than the first season's opening. The first season started with 34.1 million viewing hours in its first week of 2023, which translates to approximately 5.8 million views when adjusted for runtime. In other words, the new season's opening is roughly 58% lower. The first season reached its peak in the second week with 12 million views, so there is potential for growth in the second season, but it has started much weaker.

The second season features a new cast led by Oscar Isaac and Carey Mulligan, replacing Steven Yeun and Ali Wong. Isaac and Mulligan are collaborating for the second time after Drive and Inside Llewyn Davis. They are joined by Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, Youn Yuh-jung, Seoyeon Jang, and William Fichtner. The story of the new season revolves around a wealthy California country club. Here, a dispute with a boss's wife drags two young outsiders into a chaotic situation filled with blackmail, favors, and violence. While the new season visually represents a cleaner and wealthier version of Beef, it still retains its characteristic structure.
