The Hollywood Reporter
Monica Barbaro has begun discussions to join Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper in a prequel project for Ocean's Eleven. According to a report confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Barbaro is expected to star in Warner Bros.' unnamed film. Bradley Cooper will direct the film and also write the screenplay, with Wagner Moura set to portray the villain.
Details about the project have not yet been shared, but the film is based on characters created by George Clayton Johnson and Jack Golden Russell. A previous draft was written by Carrie Solomon. Barbaro has gained attention for her recent breakout role in Top Gun: Maverick. Additionally, she will co-star with Callum Turner in Universal's romantic comedy One Night Only, set to be released in August.
Warner Bros.' Ocean's Eleven series began with the 2001 remake of the 1960 film Ocean's 11, directed by Steven Soderbergh and featuring Frank Sinatra. Soderbergh's trilogy, which included stars like George Clooney, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, and Matt Damon, concluded with Ocean's Thirteen in 2007. In 2018, Gary Ross directed Ocean's Eight, which served as a side story to Soderbergh's trilogy, featuring stars like Sandra Bullock, Cate Blanchett, and Anne Hathaway.
The series has grossed over $1.4 billion worldwide since the release of the 2001 film. Previous director Lee Isaac Chung departed from the project due to creative differences. Among the producers of the new film are Bradley Cooper, Chung, Josey McNamara, Bronte Payne, and Gary Ross.
