Illumination/Universal's Minions & Monsters has underperformed expectations, grossing $63.5 million in North America over its first five days. The film had an initial target of $80 million. Despite earning $38.5 million in its first three days and opening in 4,243 theaters, it recorded the lowest opening for the Despicable Me/Minions franchise.

Compared to the first film released in 2010, which had an opening gross of $56.3 million (adjusted for inflation), Minions & Monsters falls short. Universal typically releases Despicable Me/Minions films on Wednesdays during the July 4 holiday; this year's release follows Despicable Me 2 in 2013 and Despicable Me 4 in 2024. In 2022, Rise of Gru had a four-day opening that earned $123 million.

The film earned $16 million on Friday, showing a 48% increase from Thursday, marking the highest daily gross for the sequel directed and voiced by Pierre Coffin. If these figures hold, Minions & Monsters is expected to surpass $101 million in total worldwide gross. Internationally, such films typically generate over 60% of their ticket sales from international markets.

In the North American box office race, Disney/Pixar's Toy Story 5 ranks second, while Angel Studio/Wonder Project's Young Washington sits in third. The underwhelming performance of Minions & Monsters has disappointed fans of the franchise, though international box office performance may help mitigate this situation.
