Met Gala 2026: Hollywood, Fashion, and Music Unite in Thom Browne's Star-Studded Class Photo
The Hollywood Reporter
American luxury designer Thom Browne recreated the iconic group photo of celebrity guests at the Met Gala event held at the Pierre Hotel in New York. Hollywood stars, notable figures from the sports and music worlds, and representatives from the fashion industry posed in special outfits designed by Browne. Dwayne Johnson attended with his wife Lauren Hashian, alongside supermodel Adut Akech, Bill Skarsgård, Olivia Wilde, rapper Skepta, Finn Wolfhard, Olympic skier Lindsey Vonn, Saturday Night Live star Marcello Hernandez, and artist Amy Sherald. Although Chinese megastar Cai Xukun (KUN), who was part of Browne's Met Gala lineup, was not seen in the photo, he was part of the event.
The event, held to celebrate the theme of "Costume Art" for the 2026 Met Gala, saw Thom Browne contributing to the Metropolitan Museum of Art's charity event by "examining the body as a form." In homage to the exhibition curated by Andrew Bolton, the designer infused deep meanings and technical details into each outfit. Adut Akech's outfit, featuring a black sequined jacket, was adorned with over 1,100 handmade silk organza flowers, symbolizing birth and new beginnings, while the details of the outfit incorporated lily flowers associated with May births.
Olivia Wilde wore a dress inspired by the Ancient Greek statue Venus de Milo, created with over 1.5 million stacked sequins and 600 different colors of silk fringe, designed to play tricks on the eye using printed Trompe l'oeil techniques. This dress reflected the details of the human body in layers like brush strokes. Dwayne Johnson, at his first Met Gala, symbolized "power and elegance" in a black three-layered mohair tailcoat, arranged with over 350 meters of handmade silk ribbon.
Chinese singer and actor Cai Xukun reflected the designer's vision in an outfit inspired by the internal structure of the body. The outfit, adorned with over 400,000 gradient-colored sequins and beads, was made from red-toned straw organza representing the circulatory system. Rapper Skepta represented the concept of the "written body" in a hand-drawn satin embroidered white wool jumpsuit inspired by his own tattoos. Each outfit's design reflected different aspects of the body and the passage of time, showcasing Browne's depth in art and fashion design.
