The Season Finale of Marshals Made a Big Mistake for Season Two

Marshals took the Yellowstone Universe in a different direction throughout its controversial first season, but the season finale "Wolves at the Door" wrapped everything up in an unexpected way. It seems that the threat to Broken Rock and East Camp came from the same person: someone who trusted Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes). The revelation of Tom Weaver, played by Chris Mulkey, as the Marshals' secret "big bad" serves as a reminder that this Yellowstone side story needs to be tied up.

In the episode "Wolves at the Door," we learn that the attack on Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) leads to a violent confrontation at the Dutton family's home in East Camp. Tom Weaver, a former Wall Street stockbroker, has been working for a long time to take over Kayce's land. Without ever revealing himself as a guilty genius, he turns out to be the one behind the events since the pilot episode "Piya Wiconi" in Paradise Valley. Although Kayce rejects Tom's offer, there is a budding connection between Kayce and Tom's daughter Dolly (Ellyn Jameson), and Tom takes Tate (Brecken Merrill) on a fishing trip in Texas. However, this serves as a reminder that one should not expect an intersection with Dutton Ranch.

While with Tate on Tom's private jet, we learn that Weaver's man Jeb (Kevin McNamara) is the one behind all the attacks. Jeb is the same person who arranged a meeting with armed men for Cal (Logan Marshall-Green) and Belle (Arielle Kebbel). Although this is presented to the audience as a blood-boiling Yellowstone-style surprise, it ultimately comes off as an ordinary disappointment.

Marshals presents a world where viewers find their answers. If two answers are equal, both are shown — this indicates that you are intricately involved in the Sheridan universes. You are a Dutton — or at least you could be. You realize that some things are worth protecting no matter what, and you refuse to remain silent about the modern world's indifference to history, land, and legacy.
