In the CBS series Marshals' season finale titled "Wolves at the Door," an assassination attempt on Broken Rock President Thomas Rainwater (Gil Birmingham) brought Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) face to face with danger. This event forced the team to work with higher stakes than ever before to uncover the truth behind the attack. Cal (Logan Marshall-Green), while contemplating his next steps regarding the cancer diagnosis he only shared with his teammate Belle (Arielle Kebbel), finds himself in a shocking moment where they will have to wait for answers in Season 2.

In an interview with Collider, Marshall-Green shared how much the show has evolved since the beginning of the season and how he found the opportunity to delve deeper into Cal and Kayce's backstory. He also mentioned that although Double G (Riley Green) has left the show, he won't be forgotten, and that Dre (Ash Santos) didn't want to leave the team, discussing the dynamic between Cal and his daughter (Morgan Lindholm). He emphasized his deeper connection with Belle and his love for a good cliffhanger. He noted that Season 2 will return with a big opening episode.

Marshall-Green also addressed how Kayce deals with the Dutton family's past and how Cal's own history troubles him. He expressed that by the end of the season, he believes Cal is in a better place to confront some of his issues. As a beautiful aspect of the writing, he pointed out that while the characters initially moved in a certain direction, viewers would realize that they shifted to a very different pace and direction as they continued watching the show. The dramatic impact of a moment when Cal tries to find peace with someone else, in this case Belle, only to suddenly have a shotgun pointed at his face seems poised to deeply affect the audience.
