Mark Duplass defended 20-year-old director and YouTuber Kane Parsons in light of the speculation surrounding him on social media. The film 'Backrooms', set to hit theaters this Friday from A24, features Duplass alongside Chiwetel Ejiofor, Renate Reinsve, Finn Bennett, and Lukita Maxwell in a horror story about a therapist searching for a missing patient in a strange dimension. With this project, Parsons becomes the youngest feature film director for the studio. The film is adapted from a YouTube series he began uploading during his teenage years and revolves around an endless maze of rooms.

Social media users pointed out that notable names like James Wan, Shawn Levy, and Osgood Perkins are among the producers of 'Backrooms', leading to questions about Parsons' role in the film. Some posts similarly questioned the directorial authority of 26-year-old director Curry Barker on Focus Features' recent hit horror film 'Obsession'. Such speculation has sparked a discussion about the influence of young directors on projects.

In response to a social media user's post stating, "We all know Kane Parsons definitely didn't direct this film," Duplass rejected these claims. "With all due respect, I don’t remember seeing you on set," Duplass said, defending Parsons' directorial authority. "While he was there, Kane was completely in control. More so than many directors his age."

Finally, during a discussion about 'Backrooms' at CCXP Mexico, Parsons revealed that the film's team created 30,000 square feet of real back rooms. This detail aims to enhance the film's visual and atmospheric depth, providing audiences with a unique experience.
