Malta is once again shining on the international film stage. The country hosted Hollywood stars like Colin Trevorrow, Renny Harlin, and Famke Janssen at the fourth Mediterranean Film Festival held at the end of June. Malta's Film Commissioner Johann Grech shared ambitious plans regarding a new black-sea sound studio, a €2 million scholarship fund, and the future of Malta's film industry in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter during the festival. Celebrating the 100th anniversary of film shoots on the island last year, Malta aims to take this success even further.

Grech emphasized their efforts to transform the film industry from a seasonal sector into an active field year-round. This year, 17 projects were filmed in Malta, including TV series, feature films, and animation projects. Grech noted that the United Kingdom and the United States are important markets for Malta. He also expressed that creating the film festival is an effective strategy to attract international production managers to the island.
