Danish writer and director Anders Thomas Jensen's new film "The Last Viking" represents the sixth collaboration with Mads Mikkelsen and Nikolaj Lie Kaas. The film tells the story centered around two brothers. When Anker (Kaas) is released after serving 15 years in prison, he needs his brother Manfred (Mikkelsen) to get the money he wants him to bury. However, Manfred's mind is in a complicated state, making it difficult for Anker to learn the location of the money. The conflict between the brothers leads Anker to better understand Manfred; because Manfred doesn't want Anker to leave him again.

In an interview with Collider, Mikkelsen emphasized how valuable his collaboration with Jensen is to him. He noted that Jensen's willingness to explore different directions in each project is exciting for him. Mikkelsen praised Jensen's ability to convey grand themes amidst chaos and his mastery in exploring character depth. He also shared how the dramatic behaviors and costumes of the Manfred character contributed to his performance.

Mikkelsen expressed that working with Martin Scorsese on "What Happens at Night" was a privilege for him. He added that appearing in Rihanna's "Bitch Better Have My Money" music video earned him more points than being a Bond villain. Mikkelsen also mentioned that he is hopeful about the future of his collaborations, expressing interest in what projects his fans want to discuss with him.
