Lionsgate film president Adam Fogelson announced that the fifth film in the John Wick series is officially in development, and that Keanu Reeves and director Chad Stahelski are moving forward with an exciting idea for the story. Fogelson stated in an interview with Business Insider, "Chad and Keanu have an idea that could really be exciting." While it's a mystery how the character John Wick, who was killed in the fourth installment, will return, it seems the production team has reached a solution regarding the story.

When the John Wick series, starring Keanu Reeves, premiered in 2014, no one expected it to evolve into a web of prequels and sequels. Directed by Chad Stahelski, the series has reached millions of action fans with four adrenaline-packed films, showcasing the conflict of the John character with the High Table.

Although Fogelson avoided providing a concrete timeline, he noted that the Caine spin-off film starring Donnie Yen and the animated prequel currently in development will be released before John Wick 5. Summarizing the situation, he said, "There are many steps, so I don't want to set a timeline. However, in terms of finding a core idea, they have landed on something they are excited about, and now we will see."

Although the cast and story details have not been officially announced yet, the return of Reeves and Stahelski will ensure consistency in the series. Redesigning the stories of John Wick, which has a character arc completed over four films, seems like a challenging task for the production team.

Lionsgate appears determined to expand the John Wick universe. With plans to deepen the series' world through side projects like spin-offs and an animated prequel, the fifth film in the main series is also expected to play a significant role in the development of this universe.
