Lauryn Hill, who accepted the Living Legend Award at the 2026 BET Awards, hosted a special party attended by celebrities following the award ceremony. At this event, Hill and Common performed, while Hill's son John Nesta Marley celebrated his 23rd birthday.
The event, organized in collaboration with the creative agency jeffries led by Kendall Werts and Culture Capital, took place at Lucia restaurant in L.A. The party was prepared in just two weeks, with invitations sent out at the last minute. Werts emphasized the aim to create a mysterious atmosphere, stating, "Invitations were sent just 24 hours before the event."
Hill performed hits like "Everything Is Everything" and "If I Ruled the World" for the attendees. Common added excitement to the night with a surprise performance. DJ Self's set kept guests dancing throughout the evening. Many celebrities, including Lizzo, Rapsody, Muni Long, and Ari Lennox, also attended this special night.
Lauryn Hill wanted guests to understand that this event was also a birthday party for her son. Werts noted, "She wanted him to know it was his birthday," highlighting Hill's emphasis on family ties. The night concluded with Hill celebrating with her children YG Marley, Selah, Sara, Zion, and Micah.
