Laura Linney will star in the world premiere of the new play Montauk, written by David Hare and directed by Tony Award-winning Daniel Sullivan, next season on Broadway. Linney will perform at the Manhattan Theatre Club's Samuel J. Friedman Theatre in spring 2027 and has also been appointed as the institution's first "artist-resident." In this role, Linney will work on developing new projects for the Manhattan Theatre Club's upcoming seasons and will participate in the theatre's education and community relations programs.

Linney has a 35-year relationship with the Manhattan Theatre Club. This relationship began in 1991 with "Beggars in the House of Plenty" and the Off-Broadway production of "Sight Unseen" in 1992. She later appeared in successful Broadway productions at the same theatre, including "Sight Unseen," "Time Stands Still," "The Little Foxes" (by Lillian Hellman), "My Name is Lucy Barton," and "Summer, 1976."

In Montauk, Linney will portray the famous writer Roxy Margaux. The character is described as a woman who falls in love with the stubborn artist Jared Speight, who has a very different approach to life and art. The conflict between the two characters forms the core of the play.

Nicki Hunter, the Artistic Director of the Manhattan Theatre Club, stated about Linney: "Laura Linney is one of the most versatile actors of our time. Her artistic talent, intelligence, and generosity make her an ideal partner for this new endeavor. We are excited to welcome her in this expanded capacity for the world premiere of David Hare's Montauk on Broadway."

Linney also expressed her pride in being the first artist-resident of the Manhattan Theatre Club. She stated that the theatre has been her "artistic home" for decades and that she is honored to embark on this new role.
