Kerem Bürsin's new series is confirmed: Grand Maison İstanbul is coming to Prime Video

Kerem Bürsin has entered the preparation phase for the Japanese series adaptation that is still under evaluation, set to premiere in November 2025. According to a news report by Birsen Altuntaş on August 3, Dass Yapım is developing the project as an eight-episode series titled Grand Maison İstanbul, which will be available on Prime Video.

The name of Bürsin's character has also been revealed for the first time. The actor will portray a successful and charismatic chef named Ateş Leventoğlu. Casting for the female lead, Defne, is still ongoing.

He was in talks in November, now the project is in preparation

Grand Maison İstanbul is not a completely new project. Initial information emerged in November 2025, indicating that Bürsin was in discussions with Dass Yapım for the Turkish adaptation of La Grande Maison Tokyo. At that time, it was not disclosed which digital platform the production would be released on or what name it would be prepared under in Turkey.

This new news eliminates a significant portion of those uncertainties. The series' name, platform, number of episodes, main character, and planned filming location are now clear.

However, the project has not yet gone into production. The director has not been selected, and the actress for the role of Defne has not been determined. So far, there has been no official announcement from Prime Video.

The Istanbul version of Grand Maison Tokyo will be set in Urla

Urla is planned as the filming center for the series. While it has not been disclosed which elements of the original story will be preserved in the Turkish adaptation, the world of gastronomy will again be at the center of the narrative.

La Grande Maison Tokyo, which aired on TBS in 2019, begins with the life of talented yet arrogant chef Natsuki Obana, who runs a two-Michelin-star restaurant in Paris, falling apart after a scandal. Obana then tries to rise again with female chef Rinko Hayami and establish a restaurant that can achieve three Michelin stars.

In the Turkish version, Obana's counterpart will be Ateş Leventoğlu. It has not yet been clarified how much of the female lead Defne's story will overlap with the original Rinko.

It had 11 episodes in Japan, it will be reduced to eight in Turkey

One of the notable aspects of the adaptation is its episode structure.

According to TBS's official catalog, La Grande Maison Tokyo was released in Japan as 11 episodes. The episodes ranged from 60 to 90 minutes in length.

Grand Maison İstanbul is being prepared as eight episodes. This indicates that the story will be transformed into a tighter narrative suitable for a digital platform, rather than being expanded into a traditional television series format in Turkey.

The success of the original production was not limited to just the 2019 series. La Grande Maison Tokyo was later expanded with a special episode and a feature film. Therefore, Dass Yapım has more substantial source material than a single season of a kitchen drama; however, there is currently no information regarding the continuation plans for the Turkish adaptation.

Female lead Defne is being cast

One of the next significant steps for the production will be the selection of the character Defne, who will be opposite Ateş. No agreements have been made with any actors while discussions are ongoing.

The script is being prepared by Dass Yapım's writing team rather than a single individual. Discussions regarding the director are also continuing. The start of filming and the release date on Prime Video have not been announced.

Bürsin's volleyball film has been postponed

While preparations for Grand Maison İstanbul continue, another project in Kerem Bürsin's schedule has been delayed.

The filming of the volleyball movie Çizginin Dışından, which will bring Bürsin and Alina Boz together, has been postponed. A new filming schedule for the production has not yet been shared.

Thus, the most concrete project ahead of Bürsin has become Grand Maison İstanbul. Initially presented as a Japanese adaptation that the actor was considering last year, the production is now advancing as an eight-episode series for Prime Video; the biggest missing pieces are the name of the actress who will play Defne and the director's chair.
