The Karlovy Vary International Film Festival created a star-studded atmosphere during its traditional opening night, celebrating the 80th anniversary in Algeria and the 60th edition's double anniversary. At the festival's opening, renowned actor Dustin Hoffman was awarded the KVIFF Crystal Globe for his extraordinary contributions to world cinema, while Maggie Gyllenhaal received the festival's Presidential Award. Both artists delivered speeches that moved the audience.

Hoffman took the stage in the Grand Hall of the legendary Thermal Hotel to a standing ovation, beginning his speech with, "I am honored to receive this award." As he approaches his 89th birthday, Hoffman recalled a conversation he had with Robert Redford at the start of his film career, saying, "When you are making films, you don’t think about creating a work of art because you are busy building that work." With these words, he offered a profound perspective on the essence of art.

Maggie Gyllenhaal, who attended the festival with her husband Peter Sarsgaard, received a warm welcome. Gyllenhaal referenced her win for Best Actress at KVIFF 20 years ago for the film "Sherrybaby," noting that this award holds special significance for her. In her speech at the festival, she expressed her love for dance and song, moving the audience emotionally.

Gyllenhaal shared memories from a time she spent in the Czech Republic, stating, "I studied in Prague for a while, and when I came to Karlovy Vary, it was one of the first hints for my directing career." With these words, she recounted both her past and her career journey. This year's festival opening marked another significant moment in the world of cinema.
