Karl Urban gave a clear answer about whether he would take on the role of Indiana Jones. The future of the Indiana Jones series, in which Harrison Ford portrayed the iconic character for the last time in the 2023 release Dial of Destiny, remains uncertain. Despite the film earning $384 million worldwide, it disappointed at the box office due to its massive budget of $387.2 million. This situation raises questions about whether Indiana Jones will be recast and, if so, who will take on the role.
Comedian and actor Steve Byrne posted on the social media platform X, saying, "There’s only one man who can take Harrison Ford's place... @KarlUrban would play this role wonderfully." Urban responded to this post, stating, "Thank you for the vote of confidence, but Harrison Ford is Indiana Jones - it’s impossible to take his place!" This response indicates that Urban is not very eager to take on this iconic role.
Urban last posted on his X account on March 28, 2023, and since then, he has announced that he would lose his blue verification checkmark, citing his opposition to social media spending. Ford's comments suggesting that the character would die with him also invalidated earlier speculation about Chris Pratt being recast as Indiana Jones. Pratt had emphasized that these rumors were "not true."
So far, no other actor has taken on the role of Indiana Jones besides Ford. However, during the 1992-1996 run of The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles, actors such as Sean Patrick Flanery, Corey Carrier, and George Hall portrayed this character. Lastly, in the upcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle game set to release in 2024, Troy Baker will lend his voice to Indiana Jones, and his performance is expected to be well-received.
