Jesse Eisenberg Doesn't Want to Connect with Mark Zuckerberg
The Hollywood Reporter
Jesse Eisenberg shared his thoughts on Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta Platforms, the parent company of Facebook, at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival (KVIFF). Reflecting on his experience portraying Zuckerberg in The Social Network, Eisenberg noted that Zuckerberg was not very well-known at the time, which made making the film interesting. "He wasn't really in the public eye back then, so making a movie about him seemed strange," he said.
Eisenberg expressed that Zuckerberg has become famous over time, adding, "I don't want to be associated with him anymore because I don't like comparisons." Criticizing the world created by Zuckerberg, he stated, "I think the creator of this website is not someone who cares about people. If this guy is the creator of that world, I don't want to live in that world."
Eisenberg mentioned that he does not use social media and finds these platforms unsettling. "I talk too much about myself, which isn't healthy," he said, expressing that social media scares him. "I already feel embarrassed when I talk about myself, so I don't want to say, 'Hey, I drank this water.' All these things frighten me a lot," he added.
His speech at KVIFF came after a busy day for Eisenberg. At the festival, he received the Presidential Award in the morning and starred in The Double, directed by Richard Ayoade. KVIFF is taking place in the Czech Republic from July 3-11 and is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
