Epic Encounter with Aquaman in Honor of Jason Momoa's Role as Lobo in Comic Book
Screen Rant
As Jason Momoa officially prepares for the role of the fierce bounty hunter Lobo in the DCU (DC Cinematic Universe), DC Comics has celebrated this exciting transition by pitting Lobo against an unexpected foe in the comics. In Lobo #2, the intergalactic character engages in an epic clash with Aquaman, a role previously played by Momoa during his time in the DCEU. This meta and highly entertaining encounter perfectly synchronizes with Momoa's first appearance in the DCU in the upcoming Supergirl film.
Jason Momoa's first role in the DCU will be as Lobo in the upcoming Supergirl film. However, the actor previously portrayed King Arthur Curry of Atlantis in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016), Justice League (2017), two Aquaman films, and several cameo appearances. His transition to the Lobo character, which is considered a natural fit by many fans, marks a significant milestone in Momoa's career.
In Lobo #2, creators Skottie Young and Jorge Corona depict the intergalactic bounty hunter as a cosmic reality show host known as "The Main Man." The company decided to have Lobo fight a legitimate hero to boost viewership, unexpectedly bringing him face-to-face with Emperor Aquaman, who is traveling the Universe to establish his new empire. The hours-long conflict between the two powerful characters only ended when Lobo's contract was abruptly terminated.
While this comic book encounter is humorous in nature, the real question is whether it will happen on the big screen. Interestingly, Jason Momoa jokingly expressed a desire to work on the Lobo/Aquaman project with Peter Safran at CinemaCon just a day before the release of Lobo #2.
Although a conflict between Lobo and Aquaman in the new DCU is possible, it seems unlikely now that Momoa is playing Lobo. It is expected that the King of Atlantis will undergo another recasting in his future appearances. While there are some exceptions, such as John Cena continuing as Peacemaker, the case of David Corenswet taking over the Superman role from Henry Cavill suggests that the biggest roles are set to be recast.
