Jamie Foxx's new action movie has been revealed: The courtroom will turn into a battlefield

Jamie Foxx's next action project has been announced. The Oscar-winning actor will portray a former Marine in the film Deadlocked, for which Amazon MGM Studios has acquired worldwide distribution rights.

According to an exclusive report from Deadline, the production will be released globally on Prime Video. The shooting date and release schedule have not yet been disclosed.

He becomes a hostage in the courtroom where he came for jury duty

Foxx's character is a former Marine mourning a loss from his past.

When he is called to court for a routine jury duty, he finds himself in the middle of one of the most talked-about cases in the country. While the trial is ongoing, the defendant's daughter takes over the courthouse to free her father, taking everyone inside hostage.

Foxx's character is forced to rely on his military training, which he left behind years ago, to save the people in the building.

For this reason, Deadlocked is shaping up to be more of a siege film confined to a single building than a classic courtroom thriller.

The director of Kill swaps the train for the courtroom

The selection of Nikhil Nagesh Bhat as the film's director is one of the most notable aspects of the project.

Bhat's film Kill was a hard-hitting action film set on a train taken over by armed bandits, focusing heavily on physical confrontations in narrow corridors. The production stood out for its close-quarters combat choreography and its ability to turn a limited space into a part of the action.

Deadlocked's choice of an environment where escape is impossible draws attention for similar reasons. However, neither Amazon MGM nor Bhat has yet stated whether the new film will be as violent as Kill or share the same choreography style.

Thus, the connection between the two films is currently limited to the director's experience in action within confined spaces.

Amazon MGM has acquired the worldwide rights

The screenplay for Deadlocked was written by Eric Scot Anderson and Matt Takejiro Bosack, based on an original idea they developed together.

Brian Kavanaugh-Jones and Fred Berger from Range, along with Dave Caplan from C2, are among the producers of the film. These two companies have previously collaborated on genre films like Longlegs and The Monkey. Jamie Foxx will also serve as a producer through Foxxhole Productions.

Corinne Foxx, Liz Destro, Paul Currie, and Bourscheid are part of the executive producer team.

As Amazon MGM Studios acquires the worldwide distribution rights, Deadlocked is set to be released globally on Prime Video.

Jamie Foxx stays in the action genre

Deadlocked will be one of the latest action projects Foxx has taken on recently.

The actor starred alongside Cameron Diaz in the Netflix film Back in Action, set to release in 2025. Among his upcoming projects is Fight for '84, which tells the story of the 1984 U.S. Olympic boxing team, also being developed for Netflix.

The other cast members of Deadlocked have not yet been announced. It is also unknown who will play the defendant's daughter opposite Foxx.

For now, the film's most prominent promise lies within its setting: Nikhil Nagesh Bhat, who turned the corridors of a moving train into an action scene in Kill, will bring that same pressure to a courthouse with no escape in Deadlocked.
