Jack Black Joins SNL's Five-Timers Club with Surprise Visits from Tina Fey, Jonah Hill, and Melissa McCarthy
The Hollywood Reporter
Jack Black returned to Saturday Night Live as a host for the fifth time and officially joined the Five-Timers Club. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie star noted in his opening monologue that this was his fifth time hosting the show, and he was welcomed by famous guests who have also hosted at least five times. Black said, "I’m so happy to be hosting SNL for the fifth time. It’s a great honor to join the Five-Timers club."
Black was first visited by Jonah Hill, the star of Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot. Wearing a Five-Timers robe, Hill asked Black, "It’s great to see you. What are you up to?" Hill then put humor aside and replied, "Actually, I’m working on Superbad 2!" The duo walked through a door into the Five-Timers lounge, where Hill told Black there was a problem in the club.
Tina Fey then appeared, calling out, "Regular Tina Fey, that’s me." The 30 Rock star said, "I wanted to congratulate you on this historic night" and jokingly added, "You’re officially the first Black to join the Five-Timers club." Fey mentioned that the club has seen "better days," explaining that this was a joke stemming from a monologue by Tom Hanks that has been brought back multiple times.
Candice Bergen and Melissa McCarthy also joined the lounge, making them part of the celebrated group of five-time hosts. As Fey talked about how prestigious the club used to be, she celebrated Black’s achievement. The sketch comedy series has continued this tradition over the years by using the Five-Timers Club stage.
Jack Black’s fifth hosting gig marks a significant milestone in SNL history. The successful actor and musician has created one of the show’s most iconic moments and positioned himself alongside other talented performers who have achieved the same success.
