Ice Cube and Chris Tucker's Sons Reinterpret Classic Comedy 'Friday' for Los Angeles Rams Draft Promotion
The Hollywood Reporter
The Los Angeles Rams have brought in Ice Cube and Chris Tucker's sons to revive their famous fathers' classic comedy, Friday. In the new version starring O'Shea Jackson Jr. and Destin Tucker, the production titled Thursday features Terry Crews, YG, Kevin Dotson, Jared Verse, Byron Young, and Big Boy. This video, the latest installment of the team's draft campaign, was released today across all Rams digital and social media platforms, one week before the NFL Draft.
The original Friday, directed by F. Gary Gray and written by Ice Cube and DJ Pooh, was released by New Line Cinema in 1995. Ice Cube played Craig, while Chris Tucker took on the role of Smokey. The two friends had to find $200 to escape from a local bully, or Saturday wouldn't come. The new version, developed in partnership with TBWA\Chiat\Day Los Angeles and the Rams, aims to celebrate the cultural impact of Friday on the communities where Rams fans live.
The producers filmed in the West Athens neighborhood, located northeast of the SoFi Stadium, the original Friday's home in Inglewood. Thursday is designed to highlight the excitement and anticipation of the draft and showcase which players the Rams might potentially draft.
Rams Chief Marketing Officer Kathryn Kai-ling Frederick stated, "This project is a celebration of our home city of Los Angeles and its culture, creativity, and global impact. Friday is not just a movie; it’s a cultural milestone. By reinterpreting it through Thursday and connecting it to the draft, we’ve created something that truly represents Los Angeles, combined with real fan experiences throughout the city."
