The Hollywood Reporter
Netflix has announced the release date for the finale movie of the LGBTQ+ youth series Heartstopper. Titled Heartstopper Forever, the film will premiere on the platform on July 17, taking the place of the show's fourth season. Starring Kit Connor and Joe Locke, and adapted from Alice Oseman's book series of the same name, the story will conclude with this film.
Announced on the fourth anniversary of the first season's release, the film focuses on Nick and Charlie facing the greatest challenges in their relationship. As Nick prepares for college, Charlie is trying to gain independence at school, and the two must overcome the difficulties posed by a long-distance relationship.
The film's synopsis states, "Doubts begin to arise, and their relationship faces its biggest test. Meanwhile, the friend group confronts the painful realities of growing up while experiencing the ups and downs of love and friendship." The film raises the question of whether first loves can truly last forever.
Producer and writer Alice Oseman commented on the film's concept, saying, "The film will be a journey to discover the hidden magic in the ordinariness of daily life, exploring themes of time, memory, love, pain, the changing of seasons, endings and beginnings, which are the core elements of Heartstopper."
The supporting cast of the film includes William Gao, Yasmin Finney, Corinna Brown, Kizzy Edgell, Tobie Donovan, Jenny Walser, Rhea Norwood, and Leila Khan. Netflix shared a video montage featuring scenes from the first three seasons of Heartstopper, along with behind-the-scenes visuals. This finale film of the series, which began airing in 2022 and has a dedicated fanbase, will continue to follow the characters' journey into adulthood.
