Grizz Chapman, a well-known actor from NBC's popular sitcom 30 Rock, has passed away at the age of 52. Chapman's co-star Kevin Brown announced his death in a Facebook post, stating, "Mack Chapman, also known as Grizz Chapman, passed away today. May he rest in peace."
Chapman portrayed the character Grizz Griswold throughout all seven seasons of 30 Rock. Grizz was a member of Tracy Jordan's (played by Tracy Morgan) security team. Kevin Brown played Tracy's other bodyguard, the character Dot Com. Chapman and Jordan met when Chapman worked as a doorman at a strip club and later became close friends.
Born in New York in 1974, Chapman stood out with his height of 7 feet. In a 2013 interview with The Hollywood Reporter, he spoke about the challenges he faced due to his physical attributes. He asked, "Why can't a seven-foot-tall man be a doctor?" He emphasized that he could be anything, as long as he was given a chance, highlighting that larger-sized actors could also take on various roles.
Chapman also appeared in the 2014 film The Cobbler alongside Adam Sandler and Steve Buscemi. He had roles in productions such as Money Monster, Life of the Party, Blue Bloods, The Blacklist, and Common Sense Police. Although the cause of death has not yet been disclosed, Chapman had previously battled kidney disease and underwent a kidney transplant in 2010. He also served as a spokesperson for the National Kidney Foundation.
