In the 4th episode of Season 4 of the series From, titled "Of Myths and Monsters," the character Fatima Hassan (Pegah Ghafoori) reveals what she has built from the earth and the profound meaning behind this creation. After giving birth to the resurrected and monstrous Smiley (Jamie McGuire) last season, Fatima is shaken by the effects of this trauma throughout Season 4. Although her partner Ellis Stevens (Corteon Moore) tries to be there for her during this difficult time, Fatima feels that she needs to solve some things on her own.

For this reason, in the 3rd episode, Fatima secretly asks Elgin Williams (Nathan D. Simmons), who betrayed her last season, to gather a large amount of soil. After Kenny Liu (Ricky He) notices a muddy water leak from a room in Colony House, he sees that Fatima is building something significant from the earth. Boyd Stevens (Harold Perrineau), with Jade Herrera's (David Alpay) suggestion, asks the right questions, and Fatima explains that she has created something rooted in religious folklore. The shepherd learns that Fatima has built a golem from the earth, which is described to Kenny as a kilya or a folklore-originated warrior; it is meant to be a symbol of hope.

Fatima recounts how her father told stories from other religions while living in Iran, and although it was very dangerous, the golem story impacted her the most. Although not explicitly stated, the golem originates from Jewish folklore. According to the definition of the Jewish Museum Berlin, the largest Jewish museum in Europe, a golem is a creature created from an inanimate substance like dust or earth, brought to life through ritual incantations of Hebrew letters. The golem, brought forth by its human creator, serves as a helper, friend, or savior to the endangered Jewish community.

While a symbol of hope is always beneficial, it is crucial for Fatima to create something that connects her to her past and brings her comfort using her artistic skills. Fatima emphasizes that she feels a disturbing connection with Smiley and that she feels what he feels. Creating the golem allows her to feel stronger and unafraid of this connection, providing her with a way to fight the monster.

While the golem is symbolic, it seems destined to come to life sooner or later. There are examples of this in Jewish folklore, and golem stories often end with the creatures going out of control, with the golem itself becoming a threat to its creator. In a Township from which the residents cannot escape, smiling monsters emerge every night, and as the Yellow Man (Douglas E. Hughes) physically transforms into a preacher girl, it is quite likely that Fatima's golem will come to life. However, a more optimistic possibility is that the golem comes to life and helps Fatima. Instead of merely being a symbol of hope, it could fight Smiley and other monsters, providing them with a valuable ally.
