Frankie Muniz Crashes at NASCAR, Malcolm in the Middle Revival Premieres
The Hollywood Reporter
Frankie Muniz celebrated the premiere of the revival series Malcolm in the Middle: Life's Still Unfair on Friday night, only to be involved in a car crash at NASCAR hours later. After the premiere event of the series, which is now available on Hulu and Disney+, Muniz's Malcolm in the Middle-themed race truck was involved in a collision with Tyler Reif and Timmy Hill at Bristol Motor Speedway. No serious injuries were reported from the crash, but the themed vehicle sustained damage.
The 40-year-old actor spoke to reporters after the race. In a statement to Fox Sports reporter Bob Pockrass, he said, "I thought we were doing pretty well. I was quite fast." Muniz expressed that he felt lucky and was trying to achieve good lap times with 10 laps to go.
Muniz noted that Reif was impatient with him and told him he shouldn't race on the track, referring to him as "the one left with one lap to go." He stated, "I believe I have the right to be on that track and belong equally against almost everyone, just like the leaders." In his own assessment of how the crash occurred, he explained that he went to the middle of the track but did not go excessively wide.
The original Malcolm in the Middle series aired on Fox for seven seasons from 2000 to 2006. Musician Linwood Boomer served as the showrunner for the new episodes. The four-episode revival, featuring Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek, Christopher Masterson, Justin Berfield, and Kiana Madeira, follows the family 20 years later. All episodes are currently available to watch on Hulu and Disney+.
