Euphoria viewers now know which Season 3 scene late actor Eric Dane jokingly mentioned in an interview shortly before his death. Dane, who passed away on February 19 after battling ALS, sat down with the nonprofit I AM ALS to talk about filming a wedding scene in the new season of the series created by Sam Levinson. However, viewers gained more context about the sequence in question with the release of the third episode titled "The Ballad of Paladin" that aired on Sunday.

The episode focuses on the wedding ceremony of Nate (Jacob Elordi) and Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), where Nate's parents, Cal (Dane) and Marsha (Paula Marshall), are in attendance. At the reception, Cal, appearing drunk, delivers an unfinished speech during the transition ceremony. Cal also reconciles with his past, apologizing to Jules (Hunter Schafer) for filming her at a minor age; he also reveals that he is now a registered sex offender following a past arrest.

Dane had previously joked in an interview with I AM ALS: "I had to shoot a wedding scene for my reception. According to the scene, I’m drunk and high throughout the entire reception. And I thought: people are going to think I’m amazing." He added with a smile: "Because I already started talking like I was drunk. I don’t even need to act."

According to the Mayo Clinic, ALS is a neurological disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord. This leads to muscle weakness, and slurred speech is a common symptom. Following Dane's passing, Levinson shared a statement with The Hollywood Reporter saying: "My heart is broken over the loss of our dear friend Eric. It was an honor to work with him. Being his friend was a gift. Eric's family is in our prayers. May his memory be a blessing."

Euphoria's official Instagram accounts and HBO Max also wrote in a joint statement at the time: "We were deeply saddened to hear of Eric Dane's passing. He was an incredibly talented individual, and HBO was lucky to work with him across three seasons of Euphoria. Our thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time."
