Dutton Ranch continues to draw attention as a spin-off of Yellowstone. The series has been renewed for a second season following the season finale that aired last week, and it has secured a new showrunner in Benjamin Cavell. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser shared their thoughts on how the show will progress in the absence of Taylor Sheridan during an interview with The Hollywood Reporter. Reilly said, "We feel like we earned this second season, and that's what I'm most proud of."

The first season ended with a major cliffhanger for Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and her husband Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser). Discovering that their new partner Beulah (Annette Bening) was forcing them to work with a cartel marked the beginning of events that would change the course of the series. The events that unfolded included dramatic moments such as a deadly conflict and the kidnapping of Beth and Rip's adopted son, Carter. The season finale concluded with Carter being taken away in a vehicle associated with the family Beulah does business with.

The show's writers will soon begin working on the second season, with production planned to start in early 2027. Reilly noted that they have the opportunity to create a series that they will truly be proud of during this process. Dutton Ranch is preparing to turn a new page to strengthen its connection with viewers and deepen its story.
