Amid Taylor Sheridan's contributions to the world of cinema and television, one of the best examples of the genre remains undiscovered by most viewers. While Sheridan's Yellowstone series has been among the most popular productions of the past decade, its success has not only led to direct spin-offs but also to the emergence of many imitation productions across various streaming platforms. These productions range from neo-Westerns that tackle contemporary themes to traditional presentations that evoke nostalgia. However, the film Old Henry manages to carry both the raw energy of contemporary works and the romance of classic pieces.

Although the film was released in theaters in 2021, it achieved very little success at the box office. Starring Tim Blake Nelson as an elderly widower living peacefully on a farm with his son, he is forced to embrace his violent past and take action to defend his home and family when misfortunes arrive at his doorstep. The film marks the directorial debut of Potsy Ponciroli, who later directed the action film Motor City featuring actors like Alan Ritchson, Shailene Woodley, Ben Foster, and Ben McKenzie. The 2021 Western also includes Scott Haze, Trace Adkins, and Stephen Dorff.

Old Henry has received a 94% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, classified as "Certified Fresh," and critics reviewing the site have stated, "Led by Tim Blake Nelson's reliable performance, Old Henry presents a pure example of the classic Western tradition." The film's title may be misleading, even tricking Nelson into accepting the role. While Old Henry may appear to be a standard Western conflict film, it is anything but. The film combines the themes of Logan with the mythology of "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford."

The production has been compared to the classic Western series Rawhide, and in a retrospective review written by Liam Gaughan for Collider, it is noted that the film "masterfully weaves explanations into the narrative, with Henry revealing the truth about his past to Wyatt only when their lives are in danger." This approach forces both the character Wyatt and the audience to confront the emotional impact of the information they learn.

Old Henry is currently available for streaming on Paramount+ in the United States. However, the date it will be removed from the platform is noted as June 4. It is recommended to take a final look at the platform before this date.
