The critically acclaimed World War II series Das Boot continues the story of the cinematic masterpiece of the same name from 1981. The first season premiered on Hulu in 2018, and the following three seasons have reached audiences on international platforms. However, American viewers had to wait for the second season of the series. Finally, through MHz Choice, the second season of Das Boot is coming to America, and Collider is proud to exclusively present the first trailer for the series. The new season will kick off with two episodes on August 4.

The trailer shows that World War II continues both at sea and on land. By 1942, Nazi Germany has established a brutal dominance in the Atlantic Ocean with packs of U-boat submarines. However, with the Allies beginning to decipher the secret messages of the Enigma machine, it is believed that this situation may be coming to an end. While the horrors of war are quite evident for the soldiers serving beneath the waves, the singular nightmare of the Nazi regime becomes undeniable for the women they left behind on land. If you missed the first season, it will be available on MHz Choice starting July 7; additionally, the third and fourth seasons of the series will also air on MHz Choice, but the release dates for these seasons have not yet been announced.

Das Boot is adapted from Lothar-Günther Buchheim's semi-autobiographical work. Buchheim served as a war correspondent under the Nazi regime and was aboard a U-boat during World War II. The 1981 film Das Boot, an adaptation of Buchheim's novel of the same name, became the most expensive German film ever made and achieved both commercial and critical success worldwide. The series is based on Buchheim's follow-up book Die Festung ("the fortress"), which details the stagnation of the German war machine during the second half of the war.

MHz Choice is a streaming service that brings the best international series to America; its previous content includes productions like Babylon Berlin, The Killing, and The Bridge. This summer, it will also be the streaming home for a new French series called Zorro, featuring Jean Dujardin, known from the film The Artist, portraying the legendary masked hero of old Mexico. The second season of Das Boot will start with two new episodes on August 4 on MHz Choice; new episodes will be released weekly. Stay tuned for updates from Collider.
