The thriller "Vanishing Point," produced by Zhonghe Qiancheng, debuted at the top of the Chinese box office during its opening weekend, earning 164.7 million yuan (24.2 million dollars). Written and directed by Cheng Wei-hao, the film stars Zheng Kai and Liu Haocun and presents a story that begins with the mysterious disappearance of a young boy in a residential complex.

During the May Holiday weekend, the Chinese film industry experienced a strong recovery. Among local productions, in addition to "Vanishing Point," the political thriller "Cold War 1994" also performed well, securing a high ranking. The attention these two titles received highlights the renewed interest of Chinese audiences in domestic productions.

International releases, however, faced a significant exclusion. The Hollywood title "The Devil Wears Prada 2" landed in third place during its opening weekend. The sequel, which reunites Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, had a more modest start in the Chinese market than expected, underscoring the dominance of local productions.

The May Holiday period is traditionally one of the highest-grossing times for the Chinese film industry. This year's results indicate that audience traffic has steadily recovered in the post-pandemic era and that the international competitiveness of domestic productions has increased.
