Oscar-winning director Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated action epic film The Odyssey will soon hit theaters and IMAX. Starring Matt Damon as Odysseus, this film tells the story of a decade-long journey. Fans are eagerly waiting to see how Nolan will interpret this epic in his signature large format. While continuously redefining IMAX technology, he discussed what The Odyssey can offer in this format in an interview with Steven Weintraub from Collider.

The Odyssey features a talented cast, including Damon as King Ithaca, Anne Hathaway as Queen Penelope, Tom Holland as Telemachus, Zendaya as Athena, Lupita Nyong’o as Helen of Troy, and Klytemnestra, and Robert Pattinson as Antinous. The film presents Homer's Greek epic entirely in IMAX 70mm format and has a total runtime of 2 hours and 52 minutes.

While discussing the innovative use of IMAX technology, Nolan explained how he and cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema came together to fully immerse the audience in the film. He highlighted how the impact of IMAX is felt in high-paced action scenes and more intimate close-ups. He also shared how the special lens he modified for The Dark Knight was sought after by directors like J.J. Abrams and Zack Snyder.

Nolan also shared how IMAX shooting affected his editing process. He noted that they explored the possibilities offered by the IMAX format, which, unlike traditional cinema, draws the audience into the action. In this process, they provided more flexibility with the wide frame that IMAX offers and explained how they made lens choices to enhance the viewer's experience.
