The Cannes Film Festival has strengthened its program by adding new films to its official selection for its 79th edition. James Gray's film Paper Tiger has been included in the competitive section, while actress Judith Godrèche's directorial debut A Girl's Story has been added to the Un Certain Regard section. These announcements indicate that the festival will bring productions that will add a new dimension.

Paper Tiger, starring Adam Driver, Miles Teller, and Scarlett Johansson, is a crime drama set in New York. This film will be James Gray's sixth project competing at Cannes. Neon has acquired the North American distribution rights for the film. A Girl's Story is Godrèche's first feature film as a director, and before making this film, she created a short titled Moi Aussi, which opened the Un Certain Regard section at Cannes in 2023.

Godrèche has become a leading figure in France's #MeToo movement by bringing to light allegations of sexual abuse against directors Benoît Jacquot and Jacques Doillon in 2024. These events have provided a platform that emphasizes the artist's personal experiences and the significance of the movement.

Other films added to the Un Certain Regard section include Victorian Psycho, a gothic horror-thriller directed by Zachary Wigon, featuring actors such as Maika Monroe, Jason Isaacs, Thomasin McKenzie, and Ruth Wilson. Victorian Psycho is produced by Anton and Traffic, with Bleecker Street acquiring the U.S. distribution rights. The film Titanic Ocean by Greek director Konstantina Kotzamani is a coming-of-age story set in a guesthouse in Japan, focusing on professional mermaid performers.

The festival program has also added Ulysse, a family drama by Laetitia Masson, and Lucy Lost, a family film adapted from the 2014 novel by War Horse author Michael Morpurgo, directed by Olivier Clert. The Spanish drama Ashes is directed by Diego Luna and is based on the award-winning novel by Brenda Navarro.
