The Hollywood Reporter
The voice cast for the highly anticipated animated film "Ally" by Oscar-winning director Bong Joon Ho has been announced. Bradley Cooper, Ayo Edebiri, Dave Bautista, Finn Wolfhard, Rachel House, and Werner Herzog will join the project. The announcement was made on the first day of the Cannes Film Festival. It is expected that new addition Alex Jayne Go will voice the lead character, a piglet squid.
Following the news about the film, it was announced that Neon will release the film in North America in 2027. This marks the independent production company's second collaboration with Bong Joon Ho after "Parasite" (2019). "Parasite" was the first non-English language film to win the Best Picture award in Oscar history.
"Ally" is Bong Joon Ho's first 3D animated film project. The director has been developing this passion project since 2019. The story is set in the depths of the South Pacific. A curious piglet squid character embarks on a journey to the surface from the unexplored depths of the ocean after a mysterious plane crashes into its habitat.
Bradley Cooper's casting symbolizes his return to animated voice acting after voicing Rocket Raccoon in Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy" series. A 12-time Oscar nominee, Cooper is making his comeback in this project. Edebiri, who is part of the production "The Bear," will premiere her drama film titled "Clarissa" at Cannes this week; this production is also another Neon project.
Other cast members include popular names like Bautista ("Dune"), House ("Moana"), and Wolfhard ("Stranger Things"). The distinctive accent of renowned Bavarian actor Werner Herzog is likely to be appreciated by international film enthusiasts. No official announcement has yet been made regarding which actors will voice which characters.
