Black Phone 2 is officially ready to stream on Netflix. The film, a testament to Blumhouse's success in budget management within the horror genre, has grossed over $132 million worldwide, successfully earning four times its $30 million budget. This achievement in theaters before hitting the streaming platform once again proves Blumhouse's effectiveness in horror and thriller productions.
Directed by Scott Derrickson and co-written with C. Robert Cargill, Black Phone 2 continues the story of siblings Finney and Gwen after the events of the first film. In the film, the siblings go to a winter youth camp with their friend Ernesto, where they uncover a secret linked to Grabber's oldest victims. Escaping from a supernatural serial killer apparently doesn't grant you a normal adolescence.
The cast features Ethan Hawke as Grabber, Mason Thames as Finney Blake, and Madeleine McGraw as Gwen Blake. Jeremy Davies and Demián Bichir also play significant roles in the production. The performances of these seasoned actors manage to keep the tension and horror elements at the film's core.
Joe Hill, the author of the original source material, has expressed hopes that Grabber will not appear in another project following the film's release. Hill emphasized Gwen's elevation to the main character in the second film and the concept of the siblings trying to save each other. According to the author, while considering a potential third film, a scenario where the siblings are equally heroic could be envisioned.
Now all eyes are on Universal and Blumhouse; anticipation is high for the third installment of the franchise. The success of the Black Phone series and its beloved characters provide a solid foundation for new projects.
