Apple TV's Pluribus Won't Return in 2026

Apple TV is a step ahead of its competitors in the realm of sci-fi series. The platform was introduced with the popular sci-fi series See, and despite more emotional productions like Ted Lasso (starring Jason Sudeikis) and Shrinking (starring Harrison Ford) attracting viewers, sci-fi series have managed to bring audiences back. Apple TV's biggest sci-fi success is Severance, which premiered for the first time in 2022. The series will return for its second season in 2025 after a three-year hiatus. Apple TV has received a third season renewal for Severance, but it seems unlikely that the series will return this year.
The only series that could surpass Severance in terms of viewership is Pluribus, created by Vince Gilligan last year. Gilligan, who is known for writing the legendary series Breaking Bad, released the first season of Pluribus in November, and the season concluded on Christmas Eve. However, the show's future was determined well in advance with Apple TV's renewal for a second season. Gilligan confirmed that he is continuing the writing process for Pluribus's second season but also stated that there is no chance for the series to return this year. Still, Pluribus is currently among the top 10 most-watched productions on Apple TV.
The most popular series on Apple TV is the remake of Robert De Niro's psychological thriller Cape Fear. This version features Javier Bardem, alongside Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson. Cape Fear has a slight edge over Colin Farrell's popular sci-fi detective series Sugar. In the film world, Brad Pitt's F1 movie still tops the Apple TV release charts, but Anya Taylor-Joy's The Gorge is a serious contender to challenge it.
