Released in 2018 and becoming a cult classic among sci-fi enthusiasts, Annihilation is making a comeback this year with a special edition. Inspired by Jeff VanderMeer's 2014 novel, the film blends Arrival with John Carpenter's The Thing, offering viewers both a mysterious and psychological experience. The story follows a group of scientists trying to understand a space phenomenon that challenges human logic and physics.
Directed by Alex Garland, Annihilation stands out as a disturbing sci-fi horror film. In the film, Lena, a cellular biology professor, and a former U.S. Army soldier enter a quarantined area affected by an alien entity known as "The Shimmer." Lena joins this perilous expedition to discover what happened to her husband, Kane. The all-female team encounters a world that is both beautiful and terrifying, threatening both their lives and their mental health.
Annihilation premiered in U.S. theaters on February 23, 2018, distributed by Paramount Pictures, and became available on Netflix in some international countries on March 12, 2018. Now, the film is being re-released in a limited special SteelBook edition in 4K format. This edition will be available for purchase on Amazon starting September 8, 2026, and includes two discs featuring the film along with special features. Viewers will have the opportunity to experience the stunning visuals from a different perspective with this new release.
