Friends star Lisa Kudrow stated in an interview with Interview Magazine that she has "no interest" in new multi-camera sitcoms. According to Kudrow, these new shows are "too afraid" to make jokes that could "disturb" the audience. When asked if the sitcom genre is evolving, she expressed that productions like 30 Rock, Seinfeld, and Friends were genuinely funny and well-written, but she has no interest in the new multi-camera sitcoms she has watched.

Kudrow emphasized that it takes courage to create comedy. "I think we’ve watched a lot of single-camera sitcoms; we need to go back to be able to tell jokes. It seems like we’re very afraid to make jokes that could disturb people," she said. According to her, truly good comedies contain jokes that are not "silly" and catch people off guard. "Comedy is about surprise. You need things you haven’t seen before," she added.

Kudrow played Phoebe Buffay in Friends, which is likely the most iconic multi-camera sitcom of all time, spanning all 10 seasons. Alongside her were co-stars Jennifer Aniston, David Schwimmer, Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, and Matt LeBlanc. Kudrow, who won an Emmy for her role in Friends in 1998, is also known as the star of "The Comeback."

During the Friends era, she noted that she did not agree with fans who said Phoebe was "stupid." "Back then, they would say, 'So stupid, how come you only play stupid characters?' But I didn’t see it that way. To her, Phoebe wasn’t stupid," she explained.
