A soldier from Thrace, Spartacus joins the Roman army to fight against the Getae alongside the oppressive Roman Republic. After the first battle, Spartacus defies Gaius Claudius Glaber, who orders the army to head east instead of pursuing the retreating Getae forces, and decides to return to his village. As he approaches his village, he sees that the Getae have ravaged it, but his wife has survived. Spending the night in a cave with his wife, Spartacus is found by the Roman army in the morning. Glaber takes Spartacus as a slave and sells his wife to a Syrian merchant. Spartacus then enters Ludus and begins to fight to find his wife.
