The space family Robinson embarks on a five-year mission to find a new planet to colonize. Their journey is repeatedly thwarted by a bumbling stowaway, Dr. Zachary Smith. The family's spaceship, Jupiter II, also houses a friendly robot who endures a constant barrage of mistreatment from Dr. Smith, yet remains a loyal companion to young Will Robinson.
