May and John had met years earlier by an act of fate. They had gone their separate ways but then bump into each other again by another act of fate. John seems to have forgotten much of the earlier encounter but May remembers every detail and reminds him that the young John had been alarmed about a premonition he had of a tragic event that would happen to him in later life.
