As we prepare for the X-Men to officially arrive in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Wolverine is off doing his own thing and his bloodiest and most violent mission yet is about to set tongues wagging, with the appearance of one of his most iconic villains and enemies. Two months away from his next appearance, Logan needs to sharpen those claws because he's going to get the beating of a lifetime and he'll need every drop of energy he has. The new Marvel’s Wolverine trailer follows Logan as he travels around the world to rescue mutants being hunted by billionaire industrialist Bolivar Trask and his cybernetic mercenaries, the Reavers. His journey eventually takes him to Tokyo, where he cuts through highly trained ninjas before coming face-to-face with Yuriko Oyama, better known as Lady Deathstrike. During their confrontation, Lady Deathstrike knocks Logan down and causes him to lose a photograph of Jean Grey. The image appears to be one of his final connections to his humanity, potentially dating back to the time he spent with Team X. Losing it sends Wolverine into his familiar Berserker Rage, resulting in exactly the kind of limb-shredding carnage fans would expect. “Unleash the rage, confront the past. With the fate of humans and mutants hanging in the balance, Logan knows the world needs a hero; however, they’ll have to settle for Wolverine. Experience thrilling set pieces throughout Wolverine’s journey in this global fight for mutant survival.” Although the new footage is computer-generated rather than captured directly from gameplay, cinematic advertising has previously formed a major part of Sony’s campaigns for franchises including God of War and The Last of Us, and given that this is playing on the big screen, there's no doubt it's going to make a huge impression when projected on gigantic cinema screens. Unlike Insomniac’s Spider-Man games, Marvel’s Wolverine will follow a largely linear journey through condensed open areas rather than one sprawling city. The physical edition will also include a disc. Yes, a disc! Remember those. Soon they'll be obsolete and considered vintage alongside things like cassettes, VHS and yo-yos. Grab one while you can. Marvel’s Wolverine launches exclusively for PlayStation 5 on September 15, 2026.
